(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Global systems integrator Intelligent Decisions (www.intelligent.net) announced on Monday it has successfully relocated the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Fort Monmouth Information Technology Center in New Jersey to an undisclosed Information Technology Center in California and then completely renovated the data center.
As part of STG's ITES-2S contract with the FBI, STG selected Intelligent Decisions to manage and execute the Criminal Justice Information Services Division Disaster Recovery Relocation Project.
Headquartered in Ashburn, Virginia, ID offers a range of IT services, software, hardware and manufacturing solutions to government agencies and Fortune 1000 customers.
The project was comprised of two tasks, with task 1 involving the relocation of IT equipment across the country to another data center and task 2 being a comprehensive renovation of the new data center.
Task 1 required the de-installation, secure transporting, reinstallation, testing and recertification of critical national security IT equipment.
The FBI set a strict data center downtime requirement that could not exceed seven days and had to take place between the Presidential Inauguration and Super Bowl.
ID relocated the equipment from Fort Monmouth to California and had the systems reinstalled, tested/certified and running in five days.
Task 2 included the renovation of an existing 15,000-square-foot data center at a government owned facility. ID served as the general contractor on the project, replacing all the HVAC units, UPS units, flooring, ceilings, walls and Fire Protection System.
"ID is very excited to have been given the opportunity to display our creative, IT solutions capabilities on such a highly sensitive national security project," says Mark Whitty, senior director of professional services at Intelligent Decisions. "It was a very unique project with many variables, so we came up with the idea to use both aircraft and ground vehicles to safely and securely move the equipment to its new home. Under our close supervision, the tasks ran smoothly and were completed on time and on budget."
With the sensitive nature of the FBI's classified information, the federal agency's data center network requires a great deal of security.
In May, the FBI shut down its external network for about 48 hours as a precautionary measure after it was hit by a computer virus.
