Microsoft announced on Tuesday that it is offering the Go Live beta 3 release of FastCGI for Internet Information Server. The Go Live license provides hosting providers with a new component for Microsoft's Web server platform that enables popular application frameworks like PHP to be hosted in a high-performance and reliable manner, says the company.
FastCGI is now available as a free download from the IIS community site and will enable IT professionals to host PHP applications on Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6 with increased scalability and security. FastCGI will also be packaged with Windows Server 2008 as a completely integrated feature of IIS 7 for the first time, sparing customers the hassle of downloading, installing and patching third party products, says Microsoft.
The new modular architecture introduced in IIS 7 will provide additional functionality to PHP applications by enabling them to take advantage of new managed code services. Several Web hosting providers enrolled in the program, including CrystalTech, Hostway, DiscountASP, HostBasket, Locaweb and Webhost, have already deployed a PHP offer on Windows Server 2008.
On Monday, Microsoft laid out the next phase in its strategy for online services offering a road map for new offerings that blends client, server and services software for people and businesses.
