Web analytics firm Netcraft announced on Thursday that UK Web hosting provider Fasthosts Internet suffered extended downtime on Monday night due to an electrical problem.
According to reports, Fasthosts told customers that the outage resulted from a problem in the electrical equipment that distributes power to the servers. While there was no fire, a fire alarm was triggered, which in some scenarios can prompt staff to cut power to parts of the data center for safety reasons, says Netcraft.
Fasthosts, which was bought last year by 1&1 Internet, hosts more than 605,000 Web sites, making it one of the UK's top three Web hosting operations.
Last week, Netcraft announced the results of its July 2007 survey, which received responses from 125,626,329 sites, an increase of 3.62 million sites from the June survey.
