Small firms 'using little computer energy'

Small firms 'using little computer energy'

When it comes to implementing green measures in the workplace, small companies trying to save the energy used by their computers could be better off looking at alternatives.

That's according to Michael Webb, spokesperson for the Green Consultancy, who said that firms with fewer employees could probably make greater savings elsewhere.

"Yes, people are more and more interested in energy," he said. "But for a small organisation the amount of energy they're using in computers is probably not that great."

According to figures from the Federation of Small Businesses, "firms are more environmentally aware and socially responsible" these days and 83 per cent are involved in reducing waste and recycling.

"We'd always advise that people have an energy audit done which will identify ways in which they can save energy," Mr Webb said. "It depends on what sort of business you are and ways you use energy."
