UK consumers' awareness of energy conservation is being driven by the rising cost of fuel, it has been claimed.
Energy supplier npower has indicated that the recent hikes in the price of oil may be making people think about the amount of energy they use.
Raymond McGloin, head of business sales at npower, emphasized the point that consumers are starting to realise that oil is not a commodity any more and that it is pushing up prices in a variety of sectors.
Speaking about the company's recent survey into the energy habits of its business customers, Mr McGloin said: "I think what we're seeing now is that people are becoming more aware that energy saving is needed.
"I think people have become more aware of the need to focus on energy saving."
An integrated UK energy supplier, npower is part of the RWE Group. It operates and manages low-cost coal, oil and gas-fired power stations and develops new energy technologies.
