The customer satisfaction levels of energy suppliers in the UK have reached a record high, new figures show.
A survey by comparison site uSwitch.com revealed that 73 per cent of bill payers are happy with their provider, an increase of 20 per cent on the level recorded in October 2006.
According to the website, much of this is down to price cuts on energy bills, competitive deals between suppliers and improved customer service.
The Customer Satisfaction Report also found that just over half (52 per cent) of consumers would recommend their energy supplier.
Commenting, Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, said: "With almost three quarters of energy customers satisfied it's clear that suppliers have made a huge effort this last year to improve.
"Satisfaction levels have increased across the board and they should be applauded for that."
However, the report revealed that only 45 per cent of energy customers believe that their supplier has them on the best deal.
Last week the website advised homeowners that online energy deals are still around £300 cheaper than standard plans.
