Consumers throughout the UK will soon be able to keep closer tabs on their energy usage thanks the utilisation of a sensor that allows for the production of customised smart electricity meters.
The Mobuis technology has been developed by Sentec and it will be the first time that a smart meter is developed to fit the profile of the British market, with the sensor offering improvements to measurement functionality.
Sentec managing director Mark England said the bespoke smart meters represent a better value for money option for different market places.
"There is a pressing need for proven solutions that are specifically tailored to the needs of the UK market," he explained.
Mr England went on to say that the meters need to start being installed before 2010 in order for the country to install the new data and billing systems that work in conjunction with the smart meters.
Smart meters represent the biggest change in Britain's energy market since homes started being supplied with North Sea gas in the 1970s.
