The Opportunity

Due to the huge growth of eCloud, UKFast is currently looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to join the team.

eCloud is the UK’s largest, high-performance, privately-owned cloud computing platform, built on enterprise-grade technology from global partners including VMware, Cisco, and HPE. Rivalling public cloud platforms, eCloud is highly flexible and defence-level secure. Our bespoke solutions minimise the need for customers to rearchitect, streamlining their migration and enabling certainty of success.

The successful candidate will ensure service availability of critical components that make up the eCloud platform, including virtualization, compute hardware, and storage. This role also involves being an escalation point for various teams providing expertise in VMware, Cisco UCS, and SAN storage technologies.

This is the perfect opportunity for an intermediate level engineer passionate about innovation, new technologies, and continuous improvement. Training and development come in abundance at UKFast, allowing you to progress into a specific specialism or develop into a senior position within infrastructure or a similar team.

What you will do

  • Monitor, diagnose and resolve problems within the UKFast infrastructure
  • Monitor systems and identify performance issues proactively
  • Be an escalation point for our support teams offering technical expertise in virtualization, computer hardware, and storage
  • Ensure our infrastructure is up to date by performing patching and firmware upgrades
  • Monitor platform performance and report on metrics
  • Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation
  • Work closely with the infrastructure technical lead to drive continuous improvements across the estate
  • Work with other technical teams to provide industry-leading support to our customers
  • Maintain good interdepartmental relationships with other technical and commercial teams through regular interaction and collaboration
  • Work with vendors to raise escalations and troubleshoot issues
  • Limit volumes of out-of-hours work on core systems outside of core business hours

What you will bring

  • Previous experience as an infrastructure engineer working in an enterprise or multi-tenant environment
  • Experience with VMware 6.5 and 7.0 (Experience with hosting provider-specific technologies like Auto deploy or VVOLs is a bonus)
  • Operational experience of NSX 3.0 is desirable but not required
  • Scripting abilities in Powershell and PowerCLI
  • Experience with SAN Storage Technologies (HPE 3PAR, Nimble, Dell Compellent) would be a benefit but not required
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and diagnostic expertise
  • Understanding of fundamental computer architecture, networking, virtualisation, storage, and operating system concepts
  • Ability to produce good quality documentation
  • A “can do” attitude with the desire to find solutions to any problem which presents itself
  • Caring persona with the drive to help progress junior members of the team
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to build strong relationships with customers and teammates
  • VCP-DCV / VCP-NV for version 6 or 7 desirable
