Nintendo Profits Fall On Slowing Wii Sales
The slowing demand in Wii consoles has lead to a fall in profits for Nintendo for the first t ime in four years.
Operating profit fell by 36 per cent to £2.5bn in the year ending 31 March. The firm said it was predicting the sale of 18 million Wiis in the year to March 2011 which is down from 20.53 million this year.
However the spokesman from Nintendo did say that they remain optimistic that the sale of DS games consoles would increase from this year.
.Analysts are blaming the fall in profits on increasing competition from Sony's Playstation and Microsoft's Xbox consoles.
However in response to the whirlwind of attention being given to 3D devices, Nintendo is expected to release a 3D version of the DS console later in the year or in early 2011.
Nintendo's rivals Sony have also announced plans to release 3D games and TVs in the near future.
