Comms distributor Nimans has appointed a networking chief to help telecoms VARs branch into higher-end network services.
Mark Curtis-Wood has enjoyed a 25-year sales career, including a decade in the comms space. His role as head of networks at the Mancunian firm is to help old-school PBX VARs explore the revenue streams available from offerings such as IP telephony, hosted voice and SIP trunking.
Nimans began life in the voice hardware arena and has expanded into more cutting-edge network gear in recent years. Earlier this year it became the first distributor to benefit from access to Avaya's new-found enterprise networking portfolio.
Curtis-Wood claimed entering the network services space can be daunting for some VARs. He stressed the importance of avoiding the "alphabet soup and acronyms" that can act as a deterrent.
"The starting point for resellers is to identify what services they provide their customers and what other services they take from other providers, " he said. "Then look at where the technology can be used to deliver all the services on a single platform."
