According to the latest research by Vanson Bourne, software services are set to be the biggest offshored IT capability by UK IT directors over the next 12 to 18 months.
The research has revealed that 62 per cent of UK IT directors already offshore software development or are planning to do so.
The study also shows that 50 per cent will prioritise the offshoring of maintenance for packaged software for example SAP and Oracle.
The survey of 200 IT directors was commissioned by Valueshore, a group of Spanish IT consultancies.
The research also revealed that 43 per cent of those asked will outsource remote infrastructure management while 31 per cent will be investing in business process outsourcing (BPO) and 16 per cent of organisations will be outsourcing their BI functions.
The co-founder of Valueshore Spain, Daniel Naoum argues that it is vital that all possible destinations for services should be considered before offshore contracts are signed.
"Each country has its own specialist expertise and, with this in mind, companies should really consider outsourcing providers and regions with a proven track record in their industry," said Naoum.
Multi-shoring is on the increase and as governments across the globe try to emulate India's rise in the IT sector, outsourcing destinations are also on the rise.
