Facebook and MySpace are rumoured to be making an unprecedented joint announcement tomorrow, according to an invite sent to Mashable, the social media news site.
"Please join us for an invitation-only announcement by Mike Jones, CEO of Myspace, and Dan Rose, VP of Partnerships and Platform Marketing, Facebook," states the invite. The announcement is set to take place tomorrow, November 18, at 12:00 PM PT via webcast.
Mashable, in a news post, predicts that Facebook's VP for Platform Marketing will be making the joint announcement on behalf of Facebook. "The announcement will be related to MySpace using the Facebook Platform or Facebook Connect".
The amalgamation of the two companies is no surprise, considering MySpace's recent renovation of their entire site and UI positions the company directly in the entertainment vertical and out of direct competition with Facebook. Now that the company is focusing on content, Facebook Connect or platform integration make sense as a way to increase distribution.
