BCS Inspire Future IT Professionals
BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, has launched a website showcasing a selection of IT jobs to entice young people into the industry.
The launch follows the Royal Society's recent report, which found that schoolchildren find IT lessons boring, and the subsequent calls from City University's head of the computing department for industry to play their part by offering more work experience to students.
The website, "ExcITing Careers", hosts seven video interviews featuring a teenage girl called Ali interviewing people in a range of IT jobs. These include a digital animator who worked on the film The Golden Compass, the creator of graduate jobsite Wikijob, and a female senior programmer from wireless technology provider MX Telecom.
Ian Ryder, deputy CEO at the Institute, said: "Through ExcITing Careers we want young people to understand that there are rich and varied careers to be had in IT, whether that means taking a traditional computing course at University, studying for professional exams in their own time, or learning through work."
"Those who start working in IT in the next few years will be working with technologies that are going to be even more transformational than the amazing changes we have already seen."
