Deciding whether to do an apprenticeship, study for A-levels or go to university is a huge life choice. The path you choose now points your life in a certain direction. So, you want to be sure you’re making the right decision.

To help you make this important choice, we’re here to explain exactly why an apprenticeship is a great first step to starting your future career.

Here are our five reasons why an apprenticeship is a great option.

1.       So much choice!

There’s often a stigma that apprenticeships only work for vocational roles. But this couldn’t be further from the truth! Apprenticeships are available in more than 1,500 job roles and across 170 industries, at both entry level and degree level. From marketing to events, chemistry to cybersecurity, there’s an apprenticeship for everyone.

2.       Earn while you learn

University can often be perceived as the superior educational route, but the average student is now racking up more than £50,000 of debt. As an apprentice, you’ll be paid for your normal working hours as well as the one day a week spent training in the classroom. For under 19s or apprentices in their first year, the minimum wage is £3.70 per hour. If you’re over 19 or not in your first year, you’ll be paid the national minimum wage for your age.

If you prefer to earn a living at the same time as learning valuable skills on the job, an apprenticeship is your best route.

3.       Real-world experience

An apprenticeship equips you with the personal skills you need for the world of work. While you’re completing your apprenticeship programme, you’re also gaining essential, real-world experience by working within a business.

From first-hand experience, we know how quickly the soft skills of our UKFast apprentices improve during their time with us. Developing your skills in communication, teamwork, problem solving and leadership not only help you become a great employee or leader, but a well-rounded person, too.

4.       Relevant qualifications

In fast-paced industries like science, engineering and technology, it’s vital that you’re learning information and skills that you’re actually going to need. An apprenticeship allows you to learn on a need-to-know basis. So, everything you’re learning can actually be put to use right away.

If you learn more from doing, experimenting, failing and trying again, an apprenticeship is a fantastic option to kickstart your career.

5.       The most up-to-date industry training

By working in a business that always wants to be ahead of their competition, you’re going to be learning the newest concepts, practices and technology. At UKFast, we make sure we stay at the forefront of technological innovation. This means our apprentices are always working with the best technology, and people, in the industry.

At UKFast, we believe that apprenticeships are an essential part of education and help young people gain essential qualifications, skills and experience. We offer a range of apprenticeships in maintenance, networking, IT, software development, events, customer service and marketing.
