When you think of a technology business, the last thing to spring to mind is gardening or painting fences. However that’s just what some of the UKFast team have been doing today, over at Seashell Trust.
Seashell Trust is a charity based in Cheadle Hulme that provides education and 52-week residential care for children and young people aged two to 25 with profound learning disabilities and sensory impairments.
The children and young people at Seashell Trust have some of the most complex needs and disabilities in society including deafness, blindness and autism, combined with physical disabilities and profound learning difficulties. All of them have some degree of brain damage, and critically, all have little or no ability to communicate. Every young person here receives 1:1 support and some require 2:1 support.
Seashell is an incredible environment for these young people and we wanted to do what we could to help. So, a group of UKFasters rolled out their wheelbarrows, picked up their paintbrushes and donned their gardening gloves, arriving at the Trust bright and early this morning.
A huge part of the maintenance to make sure Seashell Trust is an incredible environment for its young people is managing the site’s beautiful grounds. Without the help of volunteers, this would be virtually impossible. So that’s exactly what the UKFasters set to work doing.
In true UKFast style, the team got stuck in and made as much difference as they could while they were there for the day.
Today’s volunteering comes as part of our Summer of Giving. We recently visited the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust to help them renovate their alpaca and goat section to ensure that the children visiting would have the best experience possible. We’ve also committed to more sessions throughout the summer at both Seashell Trust and the farm, so watch this space for more updates.
In the meantime, we’re still accepting donations to Fill the Foodbanks – pop to UKFast Campus with your non-perishable food to donate to local food banks to beat holiday hunger.
Join a multi-award-winning family business which believes that climbing Snowdon, lunchtime workouts, skiing in Switzerland, and a free bar is all in a week’s work.
