‘Hope for the best, prepare for the worst’ could be tech’s personal motto. It makes things beyond our wildest dreams possible, but it’s important to never get complacent lest it leaves you high and dry at a vital moment. VMware Metro Storage Cluster is a great way of ensuring that you’re able to avoid a disaster if the worst should happen, and – while it’s traditionally been aimed at a larger enterprise audience – now it’s within everyone’s reach.
Nowadays clients usually understand that things can go wrong; where they’re less understanding is if businesses don’t have a sound recovery plan in place. It’s pretty fair to say that making sure that your solution is protected and able to spring back into action quickly and seamlessly if the worst should happen is a vital part of delivering on your business promises. One great way of ensuring that is through VMware Metro Storage Cluster (vMSC).
For those that can talk tech vMSC is a VMware-based configuration that lets you operate stretched storage clusters, and effectively extend your eCloud Private “local” storage and network across two physically separate UKFast data centres.
In English – it protects your data across multiple data centres so it’s always available, just in case!
Once solely the domain of large enterprises, vMSC has been available from VMware for a few years, but at UKFast we’ve now made it available at a competitive entry-level price point, so that more businesses can take advantage of its beautiful benefits.
In an exciting UKFast product update, we are thrilled to announce that VMware Metro Storage Cluster can now be added to any eCloud Private solution. This means you can balance workloads across two of our UK-based data centres, achieving many of the benefits of a high availability configuration, and reducing Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) to near zero which are measures of how quickly you get back online in the event of an outage, and how much data might be lost.
This makes it an excellent solution for downtime avoidance. You can also live-migrate virtual machines between the two data centres with zero downtime, making life in general a whole lot easier as you shouldn’t need to schedule out-of-hours maintenance. Not a bad product to have in your corner!
