Hitwise has released figures related to its Hot Shops List, which places online retail and travel operators in a popularity ranking based on visits to their websites. They started monitoring the list in May 2006, so last month was the first year indicator point and the result is a boost for traditional retailers.
There are ten entries from high street brands that have climbed up the ranks in the last year, most notably Marks & Spencer moving from 23rd place to 12th and HMV taking fourteen places to reach 18th. Top Shop and Boots joined the top 50 while Tesco moved into second place in the List behind Amazon.co.uk.
Amazon didn’t falter at the top of the list throughout the year, while the next best online only retailer play.com progressed one place to fourth. The travel sector also claims four of the top places making the top ten look like this.
The only site to fall out of the top ten is www.euro.dell.com.
With very little movement in and out of the top 50 list, it shows that the key retailers in the UK are working hard to maintain their positions at the top. Only Ikea and Debenhams fell out of the list.
