UKFast sponsors Sarah Ferguson event for Northern Moor Community Centre

UKFast's Lawrence and Gail Jones with the Duchess of York

During the production of Sarah Ferguson's television programme "Duchess on the Estate" UKFast sponsored a dinner with the Duchess herself to raise funds to maintain the new Northern Moor community centre.

The exclusive private dinner party at the Radisson Edwardian hotel in Manchester was attended by 30 Cheshire businesspeople who are committed charity patrons. They included Cheadle-based Danny Schweiger of Character World, Mark Duerr of F Duerr & Sons, Neil Tregarthen of TES Group and Alan O'Brien of Shred Easy and of course UKFast's Lawrence Jones.

Each guest made a donation for the seat and UKFast and the Radisson Edwardian Manchester made significant additional donations.

the Duchess on the Estate

In "The Duchess on the Estate" Sarah Ferguson spends time on a Manchester housing estate to learn more about the problems of 'broken Britain' - to be aired in a two part documentary on ITV1.

This trip follows on from the success of the ITV1 show The Duchess in Hull in which she helped change the diet and exercise regimes of a Hull family to help transform their lives.

During her stay the Duchess gets involved with the locals, saying: "Well you can't possibly help people if you don't know what it's like. You've got to know the area and you've got to feel it and you've got to live the life to really then want to champion it. I wouldn't want my children to be frightened to go outside."

The first film sees her recruiting a 'mums' army' to tackle problems of 'crime, drugs and a lack of community spirit' and open a community centre.

UKFast became involved during the filming of the second hour long programme as the Duchess and the community team in Northern Moor were looking for the money to keep the centre open and running.

On the evening of the dinner, UKFast's communications director was able to interview the Duchess about the project and also discuss ways that UKFast may be able to further involve itself in the projects future development.

UKFast is involved with raising funds for diverse charitable causes and sponsors several community endeavours - find out more about UKfast's work in the community.
