Lawrence Jones, UKFast's founder and CEO, describes himself as "a salesman through and through". It was a passion for selling that allowed him to kickstart his career in Manchester in the early 90s -
he had sold a business and was a director of sales for The Granada Group before he hit 30.
His enthusiasm for selling continued to drive him when setting up UKFast as a fledgling firm in 1999 and to this day he is very much involved in developing the sales team at UKFast that is motivated to succeed, no matter what the obstacles.
His background means he understands what makes sales people tick. He knows just how tough an environment it can be to work in and how rejection after rejection can knock a person's confidence. For a sales person to thrive, that hard slog has to be balanced with rewards and seriously exciting and invigorating incentives. Lawrence not only wants to develop UKFast's sales team as a whole but every team member on an individual basis.
On top of an effective commission that allows people to earn great money in tandem with helping to grow the company, the UKFast sales team benefits from an office environment where playing on pool tables, tables tennis and trampolines is encouraged.
UKFast enthuses its sales and account management teams with gifts such as widescreen TVs, watches and meals at some of the country's best restaurants.
The team is also regularly invited to the company's retreat in picturesque Snowdon to build team spirit and challenge themselves and each other in mountain climbing, raft building and all sorts of other physical and mental agility tests.
Other rewards include trips to watch the British Superbike Championships at Donnington and Croft and track days that allow employees to test drive supercars. In recent years, the team has been treated to VIP hospitality at Silverstone for the F1 British Grand Prix. There are also spa days on offer for the girls - and the boys if that's their thing!
But that's just the half of it. In 2010, UKFast stepped up a gear in incentivising its top-performing sales staff, inviting them on a week-long, all-expenses-paid skiing trip to Verbier, Switzerland - recognised as one of the premiere "off-piste" locations worldwide and among Europe's most famous ski-resorts.
The team stayed in Richard Branson's lodge and enjoyed food and drinks provided by two top-class personal chefs.
In 2011, the team's top performers were rewarded with a trip to Verbier for the second time and returned to the office pumped up and eager to hit the New Year targets.
If that's not convinced you of UKFast's unrivalled rewards and incentive schemes, here are a few thoughts from the team on why UKFast is the best place for them to be:
"Since starting at UKFast 18 months ago I have gone from being a graduate to a fully-fledged young professional. I have been given the opportunity to head up a sales team, go on sales incentive trips to Verbier, get involved with corporate events and even attended some glitzy awards ceremonies! My role heading up the Account Management team offers all the variety, excitement and challenges I need to make the job worthwhile. UKFast is a place where hard work and the right attitude are rewarded."
"I think the greatest rewards are achieving targets, closing business, achieving ambitions, aiming high, working in an amazing team, in an amazing office, and of course, great parties. The chances for progression within the business are great as we are a growing rapidly and, being in sales, your figures will dictate how quickly you progress. Being able to affect high-level business decisions is also important as we work closely with Lawrence who comes to us for advice on how we can help improve the business and grow it further."
"Things that make the job worthwhile: the people - everyone that works here is someone I would want to go for a beer with! The added extras - trips to Snowdon and Verbier, going to support Sale Sharks. Football with the lads. Ben, the chef. Hedges and trampolines! (where else do you get these?) Lunchtime fun helps take the stress away from work - pool, table tennis, games consoles and the big TV - not many places provide these facilities. I love it!
"My favourite moment of UKFast 2010 was in Verbier when I thought I was there for three days and Lawrence announced to everyone that, due to my hard work and team work, I would be staying for the entire week!"
