UKFast launches Desktop as a Service

Manchester hosting specialist UKFast launches a new cloud-based solution today, encouraging the continued rise of flexible working.
The launch of FASTdesk, which makes it easier for employees to access their work files and apps from any device, comes as a survey by professional services network PricewaterhouseCoopers reveals that nearly 40 per cent of millennials prefer a work schedule that combines traditional hours with flexible options.
UKFast CEO Lawrence Jones, said: “Things are changing and the way companies set up working options is important. When you’re trying to attract the best talent you have to think about options for flexible working or you’ll get left behind. We’ve developed FASTdesk in response to clear demand from our clients for this service; we know it’s going to help them tremendously.
“Technology moves so quickly that we have to evolve quickly as business people. Cloud desktop applications enable businesses to evolve and meet the demands of their workforce. It’s naïve to think that people want to complete their given tasks between certain hours or in certain locations. People are often inspired outside of the hours of 9am and 5pm and want to work on ideas and pass them on to their colleagues. We’re enabling a new level of flexibility.”
FASTdesk combines Cisco Powered infrastructure with desktop virtualisation software from Citrix to deliver a flexible working solution that only requires the internet to connect. Cloud desktops deliver time-saving benefits to IT teams, as updates and patches are applied to the centralised infrastructure and users can access a standardised version of each application.
Jones said: “Desktop as a Service allows businesses to develop at a much faster rate. The agility and simplicity can put businesses ahead of the game.
"This is an incredibly exciting addition to our cloud range and it’s something the UK channel is crying out for. When you plug FASTdesk in to our £25m UK cloud infrastructure and 24/7/365 expert customer support it becomes a true business enabler. It’s backed up on our infrastructure giving our clients price protection because we’ve bought the land and we’ve built the data centres on it.”
FASTdesk also helps to boost security, removing the need for physical transit of files and enabling safe seamless access to sensitive files from any location.
Jones continued: “You would hope that you wouldn’t need to take files off your local machine so anything that minimises risks like lost USB sticks or laptops has got to be a good thing. It’s not my job to tell people how to run their business but I think in time everybody will use products like this and I think that the very fact that it’s exploding means that more and more firms will come in and compete with the big players and that can only be healthy.
“It’s our job to help people get the best from the internet so we’re creating products and systems that you can press go on and they just work. They’re intuitive and they’re reliable and they’ve still got our trademark support.”
UKFast’s data centres are ISO 27001 and 9001 certified and secured to UK government IL4 standards.
FASTdesk is the latest addition to the firm’s eCloud range which includes public, hybrid and private clouds as well as 'drag and drop' cloud storage solution, eCloud Vault and open source development platform, eCloud Flex.
