Tech Firm Celebrated as Best Workplace

Investment in people has paid off for Manchester-hosting business UKFast as it is named as one of the Best Workplaces in the UK for the third year running.
The cloud and hosting specialist placed seventh in the 2012 list of medium size companies thanks to its continued investment in the health and wellbeing of its employees. UKFast jumped from 21st in last year's prestigious Great Place to Work list to become the only Manchester-headquartered business to make it into the 2012 rankings of mid-sized firms.
As one of only two North West companies to feature on the 'medium' list, UKFast faced tough competition from the capital. Lawrence Jones, CEO of the hosting firm said: "Quirky offices, great incentives and fun workplaces are often associated with big London businesses but there is no reason why a smaller company, up here in the North West cannot do the same and better. We are incredibly proud to be representing Manchester and the region within this list."
With a particular focus on the health and wellbeing of its employees over the past 12 months, UKFast hired personal development manager, Joe Cravagan, in October 2011. Cravagan has been charged with developing employees' worklives and has designed personalised fitness programmes for team members.
Cravagan recently led the UKFast team at the Bupa Great Manchester Run, where - at almost a quarter of the total workforce - UKFast's team was one of the biggest corporate teams to attend.
Jones, who has always placed the highest value on the people he employs, said: "I have always promoted the fact that a successful business relies on healthy, happy, fantastic people so to be recognised for our people-first culture and to climb from 21st to seventh in the Best Workplaces list is a real honour.
"A massive thankyou has to go to the UKFast team, because they are the engine of the company, driving us forward, which ultimately allows us to invest in creating and maintaining a great workplace."
UKFast runs regular team building trips to its training facility at the foot of Mount Snowdon and operates football, netball and running clubs; as well as providing gym membership, allergy testing and free fruit for all team members.
The 150-strong team also enjoys office trampolines, pool and ping pong tables and computer consoles in the games room inside the highest office space in Manchester, with panoramic views of the city.
The UKFast team has been rewarded with exclusive events including film premieres, music performances and trips abroad. UKFast's festival (UKFest) is planned for June 2012.
The hosting company recently embarked on a huge recruitment drive, hiring 100 people over an 18-month period.
UKFast has been put forward for the European Top 50 workplaces list, another of the insitute's lists that benchmarks great workplaces at a european level.
