UKFast in the media

Web heroes -The great and good of the WWW take a bow during February's prestigious ISPA party. Giving credit where credit is due is what the Internet Service Providers Association Awards (ISPAs), has been doing for seven years, and 2005's event at Grosvenor Square's Marriott Hotel saw the likes of Google, Wanadoo, BT and BBC New Media stepping out to represent the cream of the Web industry. Twenty categories spanned Internet service provision and domain hosting along with two unique trophies recognising a hero and a villain for the last twelve months. The latter's unfortunate accolade ended up being handed to the European Union after their threats to key eCommerce principles edged out Lyco's encouragement of denial of service attacks and TV Presenter Carol Vorderman's recent comments on the industry. It was left to "Internet Hero", eCommerce Minister Stephen Timms MP, to pick up special praise for his fine work, leaving fellow political nominee David Blunkett in the shade after his lessons "on the value of privacy" were cheekily put forward. Big winners were also UKFast.net, who fended off competition from a line-up including Tiscali and Mistral to bag Best Hosting Provider along with Wanadoo who claimed Best National Consumer ISP and Best Heavy Business Broadband. The One. Tel-sponsored Best Search category threw up a few surprises with its naming of Google. All the results can be viewed at www.ispaawards.org.uk. | |
