Cumbrian-based, people development organisation, Impact International came in the top ten listing for The Sunday Times Best Small Companies to Work for category last week, following a three-star status last month from Best Companies.

In order to be awarded the three-star accreditation companies must score a minimum of 738 points out of 1,000. This recognises company's workplace engagement practices, with staff, including exceptional motivation, inspiration and employee retention. Out of the people who were surveyed about the company 91% said that they found their managers were open and honest.

Workplace engagement specialists, Best Companies was commissioned by The Sunday Times to collect and quantify the survey information that was used to compile the list.

The awards ceremony was held in London on February 25th. This year it came in at ninth place and it is the third year that it has won the three star-rating. Last year the company made it to 17th place.

David Williams, managing director, said: "Great places to work are made up of great people - at Impact we have spent the last 29 years attracting and retaining the best talent in our industry.

"We are proud to have come ninth in the UK Best Companies to Work For Awards and we will continue to strive to make a real difference through the work that we do with our clients globally. I would like to extend a personal thanks to Impact's people, our clients and supporters globally."

The awards are divided into three sections, for large, medium and small sized companies. The small company category includes organisations with between 50-249 employees. There were 449 companies who took part.

This is the first year that internet hosting company UKFast has entered the competition and the first time it has received the three star accolade. It was rated the 31st best small company to work for.

Lawrence Jones, managing director said: "This is a real recognition of the effort we put in to make sure we have a positive environment for workplace engagement and get to number one."

“My previous hosting provider was just too unreliable. With them my website would go offline at least once a week. My business could not grow in those conditions.”
