The National Health Service (NHS) is the UK's publicly funded healthcare system, and is the oldest and largest single-payer healthcare scheme in the world. Launched in 1948, the NHS endeavoured to make healthcare accessible to all.
A consortium of NHS trusts planned to implement a venture that would allow specific staff training through the use of an open e-learning environment.
In order to access and update content on demand, the NHS needed a resilient and dependable service. Using shared servers, NHS North East, NHS North West, and NHS Yorkshire and the Humber were able distribute e-learning information to NHS Trusts and businesses throughout the North of England whilst two SQL servers allowed the database to power a selection of important NHS sites.
